Ode to Common Sense

Listen to that little voice
If you're lucky, it's a thinker
Drivers aren't omniscient
Changing lanes?  How 'bout a blinker!

It's three am
You're rock'n'roll dreams are dead
Swap electric guitars for books
And go to freakin' bed

Listen to that little voice
Wash your hands; cook your pork
Aim away from friends
When you pop a cork

Ode to Farmers' Market

I play no football
And I am not a Viking
Your stalls are too crowded
For my liking

Your goods are smaller
With more bumps and bruises
But when it comes to taste
Meijer loses

Your tomatoes are redder
Your cheese is divine
Antibiotics are not fed
To your bovine

Beside the cucumbers
Past the peaches
Your stunning flowers
Leave me speechless

Ode to Sandals at Work

Boots: the entire winter
How my toes do long
To dance their dance
And sing their song

Michigan's spring is chilly
Only idiots fail not to choose
The warmth and comfort
Of closed toe shoes

But one unexpecting morning
A new era will begin
The first glimpse of sandals
Silver, flat and snake skin

Ode to BFFs

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Some reunions
Were long overdue

Ode to La Croix

My ode to La Croix (pronounced "law kwa").

My favorite beverage
It's hereby official
Excludes sugar and rejects
Sweeteners artificial

Tiny and tingly
Your bubbles are divine
What's your fave flavor?
Pamplemousse is mine.

Ode to Winter Wardrobe

Buh-bye, bare legs
So long, short sleeves
Make way for flannel,
And thicker weaves

More substantial necks
Both turtle and cowl
Will keep us warm
When the weather's fowl

Tights and leggings:
Patterned, footless, basic black
Pull out your sweaters
'Cause winter's back

Embrace your mittens
Find your faux fur
Dig up your down
And resist the brrrrr!

Ode to the Subway

Green
Somewhat clean
To the Bronx and Brooklyn
And all between
Reminiscent
Of a submarine

A million stairs
Screaming quads
The train is here!
What are the odds?

Get a seat
Will or won't I?
Pray not near
The sweaty, mean guy

Automated voices
Advise and warn
Doors held open
The voices scorn!

Mostly efficient
Entirely cool
I'll miss you lots
